Data & Reporting Operations
Client: Hospitality Startup.
Client Request: A pending IPO accelerated the need for formal data operations. The client asked us to assess a legacy data infrastructure and financial reports in order to stabilize output and provide a roadmap towards greater stability and auditability.
Solution: All systems supporting report data were mapped. One report is deconstructed back to the source data. A specification template system is designed to capture all system configurations that impacted that report, and it is completed in detail. A roadmap is outlined that recommended a more robust operational data store, with a centralized ETL operations between the data warehouse and data marts.
Results: Client was able to stand up an internal team to take action on the roadmap. The specifications became a point of departure for an internal specification management system that established robust controls across stakeholders and management.
Data Intake Operations
Client: Financial Institution
Client Request: Streamline the collection, validation and disposition of business intelligence data and transformation.
Solution: Centralize the communication on a collaboration platform. Deploy a multi-user case management tool.
Results: Deployed a Sharepoint environment that reduced re-work and error management by over 50%. Intake processing was reduced 66% to 24 hours.
Profile Maintenance Operations
Client: Healthcare Provider
Client Request: Streamline collection and processing of edits to provider profile data as well as creation of new profile records
Solution: (First Phase) MS Word form design and VB Script development for data import into Excel. (Later Phase) Design & development of a database with a macro-driven interface that addressed key operational use cases.
Results: System and procedures are now used by 4 analysts and over 60 agents to provide accurate updates to provider profile data. The system contributed to reducing a 3-4 week cycle time to 24 hours and reduced re-work by 95%.
Business Intelligence Operations
Client: Networking Technology Company
Client Request: KPI’s and operational metrics were needed to continually justify investment in a customer-facing support community. Line management needed weekly business intelligence data to assess programs and determine root causes of fluctuation in demand. Budget was very limited.
Solution: A suite of internal and open-source solutions were assembled and built around a semi-automated operation.
Results: Management was able to cost-justify increasing investment and doubled the team size over 2 years and added 4 new languages. Line managers for 21 communities were able to review their communities’ metrics on a weekly basis. Site won industry awards for innovation three years in a row.
Business Process Re-Engineering
Client: Insurance Provider
Client Request: Re-engineer the product development processes for integration into a new claims management tool.
Solution: (Phase 1) Executive mandate to document existing processes. (Phase 2) Deconstruct essential processes and propose solutions for review and approval.
Results: Product development process was fully documented and pain-points identified. Due to the results of documenting the processes, the client realized that the PMO had not scoped the project appropriately. The entire program was halted and the PMO reconstituted under new management.
Manual Data Upload Operations
Client: Healthcare startup
Client Request: Customers were manually collecting and formatting data for their analytics service. Many files failed to load to their ETL due to errors and format issues. Operations for QA and user-management needed to be improved in order for their business to scale.
Solution: A Managed File Transfer (GoAnywhere MFT) system was selected and configured on an Azure platform. Workflows provided an automated QA against a range of filetypes. Users received realtime feedback on ingestion progress and could take realtime action to rectify data issues. Successful uploads were automatically inserted into a database regardless of the file's header structure.
Results: Management was able to re-assign resources away from troubleshooting customer data issues. Customers could observe and fix issues immediately, increasing their satisfaction with the operation. Management could pursue sales with new customers without losing existing customers. Investors saw a scalable operation and critical funding was secured.

Data Operations Agility
Data Integrity + Operational Efficiency
Automation is improbable without quality controls to continually ensure data integrity.
Pursuing data integrity is more than just implementing controls. Greater transparency, standardization and monitoring will lower volatility, increase productivity and enable your team to focus on making progress towards your business goals.
Pursuing operational efficiency releases your team to use their skills towards moving the business forward. Data systems can automate output if they also accommodate the complexity of your business operations. Your team understands that complexity and will feed that insight back into the architecture.
